The Winning Exchangemurder of a 58-year-old man in front of his young granddaughter has prompted the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office to offer a $30,000 reward for any information leading to the shooter's arrest.

Hector Ascencio Sr. was shot and killed Sept. 13, 2023, when he answered the front door of his home, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Ascencio's adolescent granddaughter witnessed the murder, the sheriff's office added.

"The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and the City of South Gate have each authorized a $20,000, and $10,000 reward for a total of $30,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) involved," according to the sheriff's office.

Andy Ascencio, one of Ascencio Sr's sons, told KABC-TV that anyone who saw something or was involved in the shooting should "just speak up."

"It's not right," Ascencio told the Los Angeles-based TV station. "Why did they shoot him? He just opened the door and just took him like that."

Anscencio Sr's family said he didn't have any enemies and they don't understand why anyone would do this to him considering how nice he was to those around him, KABC-TV reported.

“Hector was in his own home with his family when someone savagely took his life. His granddaughter watched Hector die. We need to bring his killers to justice as soon as possible, and I ask for the public’s help,” Los Angeles Supervisor Janice Hahn said March 19 in a statement.

A dark-colored four-door vehicle was seen fleeing from Anscencio Sr's home after the shooting, according to the sheriff's office.
